Funny Gifts for the Godmother

May 27th, 2012
  1. The primary role of a godparent is to watch over your godchildren, as if they were your very own. If you have a godmother and want to send a special gift of thanks, here are three lighthearted ideas.
  2. Sometimes there’s no better way to flaunt being a godmother than with a T-shirt. To show your godmother how much you care, give her a T-shirt that boasts her special role: “World’s Greatest Godmother” or “World’s Best Godmother.” Make your own shirt by purchasing a blank T-shirt, then iron on the letters. Check with specialty shops also. Cafepress.com is a great starting place and carries several godmother-inspired shirts.
  3. Present your godmother with a charm bracelet. Purchase a bracelet from your favorite jewelry store and fill it with little charms that will remind her of her godmother duties—including a bottle, a diaper or a soccer ball. Or find a shop that custom makes charms. Charms are found at stores such as Nordstrom, Uncommon Goods or Red Envelope.
  4. Shop with a fairy godmother theme in mind. Give a personally engraved wand as comical memorabilia. Or buy a plastic wand and decorate it with special colors, streamers and ribbons designed especially for the recipient. This gift idea is sure to get a laugh as well as a smile.

Jillian Michaels Is a Mum – Times Two!

May 26th, 2012

As a trainer on The Biggest Loser, Jillian Michaels was known for dishing out tough love to contestants.

But these days, she’s doling out tickles and hugs to her 2-year-old daughter, Lukensia – whom she recently brought home from Haiti after a lengthy adoption process — and the newborn son, Phoenix, that partner Heidi Rhoades gave birth to on May 3 in Los Angeles.

“We’re swimming in babies over here,” Michaels, 38, gleefully tells PEOPLE in its latest issue.

In an exclusive at-home interview and photo shoot, she discusses the two-year journey that led her to her daughter and reveals an incredible twist of fate: Rhoades, 31, delivered their son the same week Jillian finally brought their daughter home.

The instant family has made for long days and nights for Jillian. But she insists she wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I don’t even answer email. I don’t have time to care about anything else,” she notes. “I want to be really present and enjoy all the nuances of their growth and development. I don’t want to rush any of it.”

Hundreds of people had gathered outside the palace in central Stockholm to catch a glimpse of the royals.

First Birthday Ideas

May 24th, 2012

The big day arrives, the first milestone in your little one’s life and you want to throw them a fun first birthday party. Already these little characters are developing their own likes and dislikes; perhaps they’re a girl who adores all things pink and princess-related or a boy who loves dinosaurs or tractors – either way, we have a few tips and ideas on throwing a fun and bright 1st birthday party that all the family will enjoy.

1st Birthday Party InvitationsParty Invitations
Start as you mean to go on and send out first birthday party invitations to friends or relatives. You can email or telephone to ask people but it is nice to mark this important occasion with a special posted invitation to keep. Little ones can get overwhelmed and overtired due to all the excitement of the day – not to mention their parents – so keep the guest list small and save yourself unecessary hassle.

1st Birthday CakeParty Food
As one-year olds like to pick up what they eat (with their hands mostly) keep party food easy, with some cut-up banana and strawberry bits in bowls and stick to food and drink they know and like – now’s not the time to experiment. Other party guests may include older family members, so have some finger sandwiches and cupcakes for them to eat. For older guests who are staying longer, more substantial snacks and a glass of wine might be appreciated.

1st Birthday DecorationsBirthday Cake
Even though your child isn’t likely to remember blowing out their first birthday candle, the 1st birthday cake is a very important part of the day and an exciting moment. It’s a chance for everyone to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to them for the first time and provides a great photo opportunity for the family album. Make the birthday cake in a simple flavour with soft icing and your baby will be able to eat a few mouthfuls of it.

1st Birthday Party ThemesPlay Time
If there are other babies and toddlers at the party, having a few brightly coloured building blocks and toys around will keep them busy. They respond well to nursery rhymes and songs with actions so have a a 1st birthday party CD to sing along to. Parents will be around to supervise their tots so there is no need to have an entertainer. Some babies may be crawling and others wobbling around on their feet so clear lots of floor space for them to explore!

1st Birthday BalloonsParty Decorations
Hanging balloons and streamers around the party room and high-chair decorations will excite even the smallest party-goers as they will love the bright colours. Party blowers might be fun to use to make them laugh. Tableware can be bright and simple, or feature their favourite character – Peppa Pig, for example. A mixture of the two works well and won’t be too overwhelming for little eyes to take in. Animal-themed parties are universally popular.

1st Birthday Party BagsParty Bag Ideas
It may be fun to send the smallest guests away with their very own helium balloon that they can gaze at when they get home. Otherwise, filling a 1st birthday party bag with a wooden toy, a board book that you can read at bedtime or some bath toys will ensure that the fun doesn’t stop when it’s time to leave.

May 22nd, 2012

Kristin Cavallari’s Baby Shower – Flaunting her baby belly in an embellished black maxi dress, the 25-year-old soon-to-be mom celebrated her pregnancy with former The Hills costars Heidi Montag, 25, and Stephanie Pratt, 28, in West Hollywood on Saturday. Kristin even tweeted a pic of her large baby bump, writing: “Off to my baby shower. U guys like my dress?!”

However, Kristin and her girls weren’t the only ones who were at the fete!

According to a party goer, Kristin’s footballer beau Jay Cutler was also present to open gifts.

“Kristin was glowing and gorgeous. She looked so happy!” “Guys were there, too. It was co-ed.”

Cavallari and her fiance Jay, 29, received strollers, car seats, bath toys, blankets, and clothes.

The couple, who are expecting a baby boy later this year, have put their wedding plans on hold until after the birth of their first child.

Gender Reveal Cupcake Recipe!

May 20th, 2012

Is it a boy?  Is it a girl?  You’ll have to take a bite of this cupcake to find out!   Such a fun way to reveal the gender of a coming baby!!!

This was the result: so much fun!  Here’s how:

INGREDIENTS:

One box of FUN-da-Middles cupcakes with a white cream filling (plus eggs, water and oil to make according to box, and 12 cupcake liners).
One tub of Betty Crocker Rich Creamy Vanilla Frosting 16 oz
1/2 container of Cool Whip topping
Wilton Icing Color in pink and blue (or in any other color you want!)

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Make cupcakes according to box- but instead of cutting a corner off the bag of cream filling and piping over cupcakes, pipe it into a bowl and color it 1st.
Color cream filling with Wiltons Icing color- it won’t change the consistency of the filling because it is a gel and you only need a TINY bit to create a bright color.
Place colored cream into a small ziptop bag.  Zip it shut, clip a corner of the bag off and pipe filling on to cupcake batter as directed on box.
Bake according to box and cool completely.
Mix 1/2 of a container of Cool Whip with a can of white frosting.
Clip the corner of a large ziptop bag and slide a cake decorator tip into the open corner.  Fill the bag with frosting, zip it closed and pipe generous amount on top of cupcakes.
Decorate as desired.

Baby Showers Worldwide

May 19th, 2012

Baby showers are constantly growing in popularity – even in the distant lands of India, China and South Africa.  The customs of celebrating Mums-to-be may differ from the Baby Showers that we know here in the UK but they are all wonderful ways of sharing the joy and excitement of becoming a new Mum.

In India Baby Showers are called ‘Godh Bharai’ which has a lovely meaning – it translates as ‘to fill the lap’.  The tradition is to fill the Mum-to-be’s lap with gifts, sweets and fruits to bless her and her little one with abundance and love.

Parties in India end of the 7th month or in the 8th month of pregnancy.  The Godh Bharai is a women-only party with singing and dancing, fun and games and feasting.  Gifts include jewellery and money for the expectant Mum, baby clothes and accessories that she will need once her baby is born.  Silver bangles are given as they represent prosperity, intelligence, success and strength – all good wishes for both Mother and baby.

As the Godh Bharai is for women only there is normally an amount of teasing and fun but it’s also a great way of giving the Mum-to-be love and support at such an important time in her life.

Celebrations in China
Baby Showers in China are known as ‘Red Egg and Ginger Parties’ and are held on the evening of the first or second full moon after the baby’s birth and are big celebrations.  They are banquets with 8 course meals and gifts range from little red envelopes full of money (red is a lucky colour in China), prams and pushchairs to baby clothes and accessories.  Guests are presented with hard boiled eggs that have been dyed red (to symbolize happiness and the renewal of life) and picked red ginger (which is supposed to balance out an overtired new Mum’s yin and yang with a little heat).

Parties in africa
In South Africa Baby Showers are called Stork Parties and are often planned as a surprise for the Mum-to-be.  They take place typically when the expectant Mum is about 6 months pregnant.

Stork Parties are very similar to American Baby Showers due to the high volume of American television programs viewed in South Africa.  They are relaxed and informal but they really go to town on their cakes!  The cakes made as central pieces for the Stork Party are beautifully crafted and decorated, with several bakeries specialising in them.  Even the cup cakes are stunning!  In fact Stork Parties are becoming so popular in South Africa they have professional event planners to help organize them.
