- Keep a very watchful eye on the party area for hazards, such as forks or small, easily swallowed objects, and clear them away quickly.
- Make sure you have a willing volunteer to take plenty of photos or unobtrusively wield a camcorder because you’ll be too busy!
- Babies will play alongside each other, not together, so keep a variety of toys available within a large, safe floor space.
- It’s crawling, walking and climbing time, so stair gates and fireguards are essential.
- Provide breastfeeding  mums with somewhere quiet and private to feed if they wish.
- Have somewhere clean, handy and well-equipped for nappy changing available.
- Store away precious ornaments and breakables.
- Keep pets well out of the way.

Keep food simple because most of it will probably end up on the floor anyway!  Finger Foods are excellent for both babies and adults, as eating them won’t interrupt play or interaction. Parents may well have brought a bottle or feeder cup with the drink of choice for their baby, but have water, milk and diluted fruit juices at the ready. If you’re providing food for the adults, keep it simple and avoid peanuts and other foods which may present a choking hazard to little ones.
Some babies will have quite a few teeth and be able to bite into food, while others may still be toothless, so cater for both extremes. Organic bread sticks, tiny sandwiches with cheese spread, cubes of mild cheese and mini fromage frais cartons are all good ideas. Chocolate fingers are scrummy, but messy, so plain biscuits may be a better choice. Jelly tends to be more of a play material at this age than a dessert.  To be honest, your mini guests will probably eat very little food, so aim for a variety of taste, texture and colour rather than lots of it.
However, no party is complete without a birthday cake. You can either make one yourself or choose from a variety at a supermarket or bakery. Don’t let your baby near the candle as she will want to grab, not blow, it.

Dads: 10 ways to be the perfect birth partner

Although it’s hard to watch a loved one endure pain, most dads find the birth of their baby to be one of life’s greatest moments. Of course, it’s even better if you know that you’ve been there to help.

Loud bangs from party poppers and bursting balloons may frighten your baby, and discarded poppers and balloons are serious choking hazards, so leave them until next year. Why not have some musical fun instead, such as dancing with your baby, or putting on a nursery rhyme CD in the background.
She’ll appreciate a few simple games, such as Row the boat or Round and round the garden, with plenty of tickles, too. She’ll also enjoy peek-a-boo games, finding toys hidden in a box or under a cloth and, of course, helping you to open her presents. Do brace yourself for her being much more excited by the wrapping paper than the actual gifts!  Party Suppliers can also help you with suggestions and ideas. Many sell themed party packs and more.

In many ways, touch is our first language – a language scientists are now beginning to understand. Being touched in a loving way can help small babies grow stronger and troubled children feel less anxious. In many hospitals and birth centres, newborns are placed on the mother’s chest or abdomen to give them the most skin-to-skin contact. The touch between the mother and her baby brings them emotionally close – a process known as bonding or attachment. In fact, in one study, premature infants who were massaged while at the hospital gained more weight and were ready to go home with their parents an average of six days earlier than preemies who were not massaged.

Exclusive to & Designed by Shower My Baby. A Fun NEW Game! – Remember My Name Forfeit Game £3.95
We will provide you with a sheet of 12 name badges together with a list of 23Â FUN forfeits & game instructions. The aim of the game is to call your guests by the name on their name badges such as Betty Bottle, Carly Crib, Wendy Wipes and so on – you get the jist!!.
If a guest is called by their real name rather than the name on their name badge, then the guest who did this is required to carry out a forfeit, put money into baby’s money box or both!
This could be that you are asking each guest who is required to perform a forfeit is to put a contribution into baby’s money box or they are asked to perform one of the forfeits on the sheet that we have sent you. You may want to also add some of your own forfeits too.
This game is heaps of fun!
If you have more than 12 guests and would like an additional sheets of name badges then please select this below. This will of course be sheets of 12 Different Name Badges in addition to the 12 sent with this game.
This game was so much fun and I would highly recommend it for a party. We still talk about the hilarious names now after the baby shower party and call each other by them. The forfeits you sent were excellent and some a little challenging too!! This really made the party a fun celebration. Thanks again. Melanie Blyth xx

Sound and compatibility
How your baby’s name sounds when it is said aloud is one of the most essential things to think about. Is it melodious? Harsh? Does it go well with your surname? Often, longer first names work better with shorter surnames, and vice versa. Combining a first name that ends in a vowel with a surname that starts with a vowel generally isn’t the best choice – the names tend to run together, like Eva Anderson. Avoid first names that rhyme with your surname. It’s probably wise to resist puns too. A name like “Holly Wood” or “Rosie Lee” will be fun for about five minutes, not a lifetime.
Relatives and friends
Many parents choose to name their babies after a grandparent, other relative, or close friend. This option can provide you with a good pool of names to consider. Take ideas graciously, but don’t tell anyone what you and your partner have decided until after your baby is born – when it’s too late to give in to any less-than-subtle hints. Never let anyone pressure you into a name you don’t like. When it comes down to it, great aunt Hepzebiah won’t have to live with the name, your baby will.

Taking regular exercise when you’re expecting is a great idea. Studies have shown that if you are, you’ll have an easier time adapting to pregnancy than if you’re out of shape.
Exercise has psychological benefits, too. According to research, women who exercise during pregnancy have a better overall feeling of wellness than women who don’t. They feel more positive and energetic.
The reason so many pregnant women choose swimming over other forms of exercise is because it makes you feel almost weightless. This can be a huge relief, especially in the third trimester. And unlike some other forms of aerobic exercise, swimming keeps you cool.
Swimming also helps to:
- improve circulation
- boost heart and lung function
- increase muscle tone and strength
- build endurance
- help with swelling and fluid retention during pregnancy
- burn off calories
- promote good sleep
- fend off fatigue
Check with your doctor, physiotherapist or midwife before you take the plunge.  However, it should be safe to swim throughout your pregnancy, right up until your baby’s birth.
